On March 5, a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Russian Paralympic Committee was held via videoconferencing.
Chairman of the Executive Committee, First Vice President of the RPC, Head of the RPC Working Group on Ensuring Compliance with the IPC Criteria Effective After the Reinstatement of the RPC Membership Pavel Rozhkov reported on the implementation of the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the case of WADA v. RUSADA dated December 17, 2020 and the Revised Post-Restoration Criteria IPC dated February 8, 2021.
When discussing this issue, the names of the Russian Paralympic teams were approved: in English "RPC", in Russian "PKR", the emblem of the Russian Paralympic teams in the form of a combination of the Paralympic symbol "Agitos" with three flames painted in white, blue and red colors , flag of the Russian Paralympic team. These materials will be sent to the International Paralympic Committee for approval.
Further, Pavel Rozhkov, chief of mission of the Russian national team at the XVI Paralympic Summer Games in Tokyo (Japan), made a report on the preparation of the Russian national teams for participation in the XVI Paralympic Games. Organizational issues of participation, an extended list of candidates for the Russian Paralympic delegation to the Tokyo 2020 Games, procedures and principles for selection to the national team, etc. were considered.
In his speech, Pavel Rozhkov noted:
“Since January 2021, the Russian Paralympic Committee has taken part in a number of meetings with the IPC and Tokyo 2020 in preparation for the upcoming Games. They were devoted to measures to combat coronavirus at the Games, the status of the participation of Russian athletes in accordance with the CAS decision, the coordination of equipment sketches, communication, marketing and advertising issues.
In February 2021, the IOC and IPC released playbooks for IFs, sports delegations from participating countries and media representatives. Among the main requirements of the playbooks are testing for COVID-19 72 hours before departure to Tokyo and every 4 days during the Games, arrival at the Paralympic Village 5-7 days before the first day of the competition and departure within 48 hours after the completion of the performance at the Games, a ban on holding events outside official facilities, the use of public transport, the need to maintain social distance, etc.
In July-August, we will hold a series of information seminars for all Russian Paralympic teams on anti-doping support at the Games, the climatic and geographical features of Tokyo, and measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Currently, Russian athletes have won 136 quotas for participation in the PI-2020, which corresponds to 174 athletes, in 13 sports. It is planned that Russian athletes will take part in 19 out of 22 sports.The composition of the Paralympic delegation of Russia can be up to 470 people, incl. up to 270 athletes.
The approval of the Russian Paralympic Team for the XVI Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo (Japan) is planned by the RPC Executive Committee until August 2, 2021.”
During the meeting, issues of holding final events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Russian Paralympic Committee in Belgorod were considered.
The events are scheduled for the period from 14 to 16 May 2021. During these terms, the following will take place: a meeting of the RPC Executive Committee; scientific and practical conference on the development of adaptive sports with the participation of leading Russian experts; All-Russian Summer Sports Contest for disabled children with musculoskeletal disorders; master classes and Paralympic lessons for children with disabilities with the participation of champions and prize-winners of the Paralympic Games; press conference dedicated to 100 days before the start of the XVI Paralympic Summer Games in Tokyo.
When considering the issue of nominating a candidate from the RPC for elections to the IPC Athletes' Council, the members of the Executive Committee decided to approve the candidacy of 2-time silver, 2-time bronze medalist of the World Championships, captain of the Russian national table tennis team of the sport of persons with PDA Yuri Nozdrunov.
