History of the Institute
MEDICAL INSTITUTE is the youngest institute of the university complex. It was created in July 2014 by order of the rector of SyktGU. The basis of the institute was the Komi branch of the Kirov State Medical Academy in Syktyvkar, which has been operating in the republic since 1996. Go to History Page
The main goal of the Medical Institute is to train doctors for medical organizations not only in the Komi Republic, but also abroad.
Today, the Medical Institute is a successfully developing structure that combines the implementation of educational, medical and scientific activities.
The medical institute has 6 departments:

- Department of Biochemistry and Physiology
- Department of Neurology, Psychiatry and Special Clinical Disciplines

International activities of the institute
International cooperation with foreign partners is now becoming one of the priority areas of work for any modern institution of higher education. Our Medical Institute is no exception.
Every year the university strengthens international educational cooperation. In particular, students from different countries study at the Medical Institute – India, Nepal, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Kuwait, Eswatini, Kyrgyzstan. Uzbekistan.
Students study in English and Russian. The first three years they study the main subjects in English. At the same time, they learn Russian, and from the fourth year they begin to study medical subjects in Russian, which allows them to communicate freely with patients.All theoretical knowledge is consolidated by practice at the end of each semester in the university sanatorium, as well as in departments of republican and city hospitals and polyclinics, a cardiological dispensary, and the Center for Disaster Medicine.
The material and technical base is constantly updated. Students are engaged in equipped classrooms, computer classes equipped with modern office equipment. The scientific library of the university has an extensive book fund, an educational media library and an electronic database. The Manipulation Skills Center allows students to practice their skills in injections, CPR, heart massage, and more on simulation equipment.
Students acquire theoretical knowledge on the diagnosis, examination of the human body and study the causes of various diseases and diseases, the ways of spreading various infections, the symptoms of diseases and their development, pharmacology, therapeutic and preventive measures and preliminary exposure, prevention.
Research work of medical students at the institute covers a wide range of types and areas of activity. You can deal with human nutrition and depression, biomedical technology, therapy problems, pediatrics and neurology. Students perform scientific work at the bases of university partners – research centers and hospitals. Scientific and practical conferences of students are held every year. Our students participate in international conferences and festivals. By participating in conferences you can win scholarships or grants.
Material and technical base
The Institute has a modern material and technical base, spacious lecture halls equipped with multimedia technology, modern laboratories, computer classes and an anatomical museum. A simulation center has been created with constantly updated equipment for practicing practical skills by students, classrooms with modern simulation mannequins have been organized, including on the basis of the university sanatorium.
The work of a number of departments is carried out in medical organizations in the city of Syktyvkar that have the status of clinical ones: Komi Republican Clinical Hospital, Children's Republican Clinical Hospital; Clinical Cardiology Dispensary. Many of the teachers of the Medical Institute are practicing physicians and freelance specialists from the Ministry of Health of the Komi Republic.
The educational process is carried out in the educational buildings of the Syktyvkar State University named after Pitirim Sorokin (educational building No. 2 (Starovsky St., 55), educational building No. 3 (Petrozavodskaya St., 12), educational building No. 1 (October- 55), on the basis of the Syktyvkar Medical College named after I.P. Morozov (garazhnaya st., d.2), a sanatorium-preventorium of the university, as well as in departments of republican and city hospitals and polyclinics, a perinatal center, a tuberculosis, oncological and cardiological dispensary, and the Center for Disaster Medicine. Students are provided with places in a hostel (Kommunisticheskaya St., 72), located within walking distance from the main educational building, as well as large medical organizations.
There are great opportunities for organizing leisure activities. The Center for Artistic Creativity, the Center for Civic Education and Interethnic Cooperation, and sports sections are successfully operating at the university. A volunteer movement has been organized, including “Medical Volunteers”.
