Cleanliness in the Quran and Hadith

Islam attaches special importance to personal purity – Taharat. In the Taharat dictionary means "get rid of dirt and stay away from unclean." In the terminological value, Taharat is cleansing from spiritual grind (Hadas) and material evil spirits (Najas), which prevent the namaz. Because of the direct connection with Namaz, Takharat the theme is of particular importance. The word Taharat is found in the Quran 31 times in various forms and combinations. At half past cases, it is used in the sense of "purification from dirt". For example, ". Clothes your cleansing! " (St. Koran, 74: 4); "Allah loves jumping and loves cleansing" (sv. Koran, 2: 222); "And if you are in sex deficiency, you can cleanse" (sv. Koran, 5: 6); "Therefore, avoid sexual proximity to women during menstruation and do not approach them until they are cleaned. And when they are cleaned "(sv. Koran, 2: 222).

In the blessed Quran, where it is said about purity, it means not only physical purity, but also the purity of the heart "So it will be cleaner for your hearts and their hearts" (sv. Koran, 33:53), mentioned the purity of the moral "rollerize the family Luta (lot) from your village. Truly, these people want to be cleaned "(Sv. Koran, 27:56), the purity of the property" Take from their property of donations, so that they clear and exalt them "(sv. Koran, 9: 103), emphasizes the meaning of the purity of thoughts and intentions "Oh Messenger! Let you not be sad by those who seek to confess the disbelief and speak their mouths: "We believed," although they did not believe their hearts. . They distort the words by changing them in places, and they say: "If you give it, then take it, but if you do not give it, then beware." One whom Allah wants to be sophisticated, you are not dominated to protect from Allah. Amolha's Imers did not wish to clean. In this world, they are waiting for shame, and in the last life they are prepared by great torments "(Sv. Koran, 5:41).

In addition, the word Taharat also denotes the purity of the body, clothes, places of residence, territory and water.

Body purity

Islam considers personal cleanness with one of the conditions of faith. Physical and spiritual purity is also a condition for making praying to the Most High. In one of the Hadiths, the Prophet (S.A.) says: "Clean – Half of Faith." Cleanliness, the importance of which is emphasized in this specification, is common, that is, here is meant both physical cleanliness and spiritual purity (Janan, 66).

Cleanliness, in a broad sense, is divided into two parts: the cleansing of the body from the material is bad and cleansing from human soul.

Cleansing from spiritual grouse (Hadas) is also divided into two parts:

A. "Big Spiritual Square", as a result which requires full ritual ablution (Husul), or the state of Junub, in which a person falls after ejaculation, pollutions or sexual intercourse. In the Koran at the expense of this it says: "Oh those who believed! Do not close to the Namazu, being drunk until you understand what pronounce, and being in a state of sexual desecration, until you swim, unless you are a traveler "(Sv. Koran, 4:43). Similarly, this complete ritual ablution is required at the end of the monthly (highas) and postpartum bleeding (Nifas), respectively, it is said in the Quran: "They ask you about menstruation. Tell me: "They cause suffering. Therefore, avoid sexual proximity to women during menstruation and do not approach them until they are cleaned … "(Sv. Koran, 2: 222).

B. "Small Spiritual Square", which requires small ritual ablution (Voodoo, Abdest, Taharat). This ablution is necessarily accomplished before Namaz, if a person has cope with a large or low need, emptied intestinal gas and under other circumstances that violate small ritual ablutions. In one of the Hadiths transmitted by Abu Khrayra, the Prophet Muhammad (S.S.) says: "Allah will not accept the Namaz from you, which you have completed after you have breaking the ablution until you rebel the ablution" ( Bukhari, Hyal 2).

In turn, Najacat is material uncleanness or physical dirt that the body, clothing or the place of mazaz can be franged. According to the majority of Islam interpretors, in order for Namaz to be a complete, this kind of impurity should be removed.

If you look from a medical point of view, Zurtzha – cleansing in the toilet after a large and low need – plays a very large role in body hygiene. Cleansing after a large or low need, especially the isolation is very important for health, water is the most optimal means.

The man who studies Islamic canons and the rules of behavior concerning cleanliness will see that the huge benefits for human health lies behind them. Take, for example, Zastnja. The diseases forbidden to be arranged with his right hand, because the right hand is eats. Thus, the right hand is preventing contact with uncleanness and its great purity is ensured. It is known that the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.) used the right hand when he ate, drank or something and took something, and in other cases used his left hand.

The fact that in front of Namaz is prescribed to perform ablution and Muslims several times a day, open parts of the body are made, which are most exposed to microbes, already speaks for itself. Microbiologists have proven that up to 5,000,000 microbes are concentrated on 1 cm2. It is also known that microbes are very quickly multiplied, so the only thing we can do in order to avoid diseases, it is periodically and thoroughly wash these parts of the body.

Specialists are unanimous in the fact that the area of skin is the largest part of the human body, about 2 m2.As Windoff reports in his book Skin and Sexually Transmitted Diseases, the number of various microbes on the surface of human skin exceeds the number of all living things on the planet combined. According to the same scientist, up to 200 million of these microbes are neutralized during one bath. But microbes are constantly multiplying, and it is necessary to reduce their number. How beautifully the Prophet (peace be upon him) spoke about this: “Every Muslim is obliged to bathe and wash his hair at least once a week” (Bukhari, Juma 12; Muslim, Juma 9).

Islam also commands a Muslim to brush his teeth and get rid of food leftovers between the teeth. On this occasion, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Two angels, who are to the right and left of a person, record all his deeds and never leave him. They are most indignant when the person whose deeds they are instructed to write down, stands for prayer without first removing the remnants of food between the teeth ”(Suyuti, 85).

As you know, mazmaza, which is a thorough rinsing of the mouth during abdest, protects the oral cavity, pharynx and gums from inflammation, and teeth from caries. Dr. Mustafa Saeed as-Suyuti in his book “Mu’jizatu fit-tibbi lin-nabiyil-arabi Muhammad (s.a.s.)” citing an excerpt from Dr. Garzuzi’s book “Wikayatul-asnan wa sykhkhatul-abdan” says: “Ninety percent of people lose their teeth. If they paid due attention to the cleanliness of their teeth, they would not lose them ahead of time. If the teeth are not brushed properly, it harms more than just the gums. Harmful substances that form and accumulate in the mouth through saliva and food are transferred to the stomach. And from there, mixing with blood, they spread throughout the body and become the cause of various diseases.

Therefore, Islam prescribes the use of miswak. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) says: “Use a miswak, because a miswak cleans your teeth and gives you a chance to earn the pleasure of Allah” (Ibn Maja, Taharat 7); “How good is the miswak of the wholesome olive tree. With its help, the mouth is cleaned and yellowing of the teeth is prevented. Miswak, made of an olive tree, is a means of cleansing my mouth and the prophets before me” (Haysemi, Majmauz-Zawaid, 2:100); “Four things are sunnah of the prophets: modesty (haya), the use of incense, marriage (nikah) and the use of miswak” (Tirmidhi, Nikah 1).

Islam also encourages rinsing the nose (istinshaq) and gives it the same importance as cleansing the mouth. In fact, istishak is the cleanliness of the nasal cavity. It is performed by drawing water into the nose and blowing it out, thereby bringing out the harmful substances that have accumulated in the nose, as well as cleaning the hairs in the nose.

Natural cleanliness and hygiene of the body In order to fully maintain the cleanliness of the body, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) established certain rules for a healthy lifestyle. He called these rules with "natural purification" and commanded us to follow them.

It is known that the adequate prophet about natural purity and body hygiene said: "Five things make up human nature and the following five things are natural manifestations of human nature: to make circumcision, shave the pubic hair, cut your nails, shave under the mouse and lock the mustache" (Bukhari, Libas 63). Modern medicine only now explains us the importance of these things.

  1. If you do not cut the nails, the many microbes and dirt are accumulated under them. There are many viruses whose carrier are dirty nails and which as a result lead to such diseases as diarrhea, intestinal inflammation, eye inflammation, infection with intestinal wand, etc.
  2. Circumcision also has great benefit to human health. Circumcision protects a person from fat discharges, in addition, in the extreme flesh under the skin, a microclimate favorable for microbes is formed, cutting off the extreme flesh, we deprive the microbes of the place of breeding and development. It has been proven that Muslim women, whose husbands are cut off the extreme flesh, less sick of cervical cancer.
  3. The purity of intimate zones, in particular shave the pubic hair, carries much benefits, because microbes, bacteria and other harmful organisms in most cases live in this hair zone.
  4. Due to the fact that the armpits are the zone of active selection of sweat on the human body, these places are very favorable for the reproduction and development of microbes. As a result, an unpleasant odor appears, which gives discomfort around the surrounding, shaving the hair under the mouse prevents intense reproduction of microbes and bacteria.
  5. Procurement of the mustache is also a natural procedure, as the long mustache is constantly dirty when a person eats or drinks. When the food falls on the mustache, the person looks unpleasant and unhygienically.

Clean clothing

The principle of environmental cleanliness in Islam does also require a person to clean his clothing clean. Muslim as a member of society, as a representative of the Muslim community should be pleasant in appearance, neat and clean. On this occasion, Allah says: "Oh, the Sons of Adam! Alpapted into your decorations at every mosque. "(Sv. Koran, 7:31).

The Messenger of Allah was tidy everyone and looked better than everyone. He encouraged his comrades to follow the cleanliness of the clothes. Once he saw a man in his wicked clothes and said: "Is this a person not finding how to wash his clothes?" (Abu Dwood, Libas 14). These words, the prophet urged Muslims not to wear dirty clothes, like this man.

Islam made the purity of the robes with a prerequisite for daily and constantly performed prayers. This automatically introduces a person to purity and makes it be especially careful to all kinds of unclean women who can stain his clothes.Allah in the Qur'an commands: "…Cleanse your clothes!" (Holy Quran, 74:4). The Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever has any clothes, let him keep it clean.” Especially the Prophet demanded that on holidays and on Fridays, when everyone goes out into society and makes a collective prayer, people pay even more attention to the cleanliness of their clothes and neatness.

Cleanliness of the premises and territory

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) paid great attention to the cleanliness of the house and said: “Allah is beautiful and loves beauty, Allah is generous and loves the generous, Allah is generous and loves the generous, Allah is pure and loves the clean. So clean around the houses. ” (Tirmidhi, Adab 41).

In his saying, the Messenger of Allah calls on us to keep the yard and the area around the house clean so that there is no garbage or uncollected garbage.

Islam tells us to clean houses and surrounding areas, considering, first of all, the health of society. If we are talking about cleaning the premises and the surrounding area, then we mean not only houses and courtyards, but also streets, mosques, gathering places, as well as other public places.

Islam requires keeping the entire surface of the Earth clean and not polluting the environment. Particular attention should be paid to those places where the rites of worship are performed, because if there is any kind of dirt, the prayer performed in this place will not be counted.

The topic of cleanliness of the premises and territory also includes the choice of a place of residence, whether it be a house or a tent or other housing. Righteous ancestors advised when choosing a place to live or building a house to take into account the following criteria:

  1. It should not be a place or area where certain diseases are common.
  2. The place should not be damp, devoid of sunlight and fresh air.
  3. It should not be somewhere in the lowlands where heavy odors and harmful gases accumulate.
  4. It is also undesirable that it be too high a place, exposed to strong winds.
  5. The house itself, as well as its doors and windows, must be of good quality so that harmful insects, cold and dust that carry microbes harmful to health do not enter the house.

As it is said in the verse “they created every living thing from water” (Holy Quran, 21:30), water is the basis of life. Therefore, to protect water from pollution means to comprehensively protect your life. Many injunctions of Islam command people to conserve water and not pollute it.

From all that has been said, it follows that the rules established by Islam regarding cleanliness are a guarantee of a safe and healthy life for a person. It is impossible to express in words how much we today need to observe these rules established by Islam.

Especially in our age, when the degree of pollution of nature, the world's oceans and the atmosphere has reached a critical point, so if decisive and effective measures are not taken, then an ecological disaster is not far off.The ecological wisdom of Islamic rules deserves worldwide learning and promotion, especially among young people.
