Tiraspol and Chisinau appealed to the World Health Organization (WHO) with a request to send observers in Transnistria. Earlier, Chisinau appealed to the OSCE with a request to convene a meeting of the negotiation format "5 + 2" (Moldova, Transnistria, Russia, Ukraine, OSCE – Intermediaries, the European Union and the United States – observers).

The reason is the refusal of the Transnistrian authorities to admit representatives of Moldova to the unrecognized republic, who wanted to check how residents of the region are serviced during a pandemic, which are citizens of the Republic of Moldova (RM). Previously, she sought to make medical professionals living in Transnistria, but working in villages controlled by Chisinau, allowed to travel there and back daily. The zone is controlled by the Joint Control Commission (OCC), and any movement within its limits may allow or not allow the OCC. Christina Lester sought to make it allowed to move freely in the area controlled by peacekeepers. The resolution allowing it to be accepted by OCC only on the basis of the consensus of the three delegations – Moldavian, Transnistrian and Russian. It is clear that in this case a single solution cannot be: the position of Transnistrians will support Russians. Especially considering the situation with coronavirus.

On Tuesday, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR (unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic) Vitaly Ignatiev discussed by phone with the representative of the World Health Organization Igor Pokanevich issues related to the organization of a WHO monitoring mission, the purpose of which would be to familiarize with the practice of combating COVID-19 in Transnistria, the press reported. – service of the Transnistrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties noted the existence of a conceptual agreement on holding such a visit and agreed in the near future to concentrate on working out its organizational and technical aspects.

“The Foreign Ministry welcomes the constructive spirit of the WHO, as well as the position of the international community, which, by refusing to hold a far-fetched emergency 5+2 meeting at the request of the Moldovan side, has demonstrated a clear understanding that in the current difficult period it is necessary to focus on the substantive work of relevant expert groups and the struggle with the coronavirus infection, and not engage in speculation and political games,” the communiqué of the Pridnestrovian Foreign Ministry says.

Earlier, the Pridnestrovian side called on Moldova to abandon further "false insinuations" regarding the epidemiological situation in the PMR, including those related to the monitoring visit of the WHO delegation to the republic, and return to productive interaction with Pridnestrovie within the framework of the negotiation process.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR reported another fact of Moldova blocking the import of goods into the territory of Pridnestrovie. The department noted that from April 25 to the present, a vehicle transporting equipment designed to ensure the safety of medical staff in connection with the coronavirus pandemic has been detained on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

“It should be noted that an official appeal to ensure the smooth delivery of equipment was sent to the Moldovan side in advance. There were no refusals to resolve the issue from Chisinau. At the same time, upon the fact of the import of equipment, the Moldovan side put forward administrative and bureaucratic requirements that impede the delivery,” reads a message posted on the official website of the PMR Foreign Ministry.

“Such artificial restrictions are obviously inhumane in nature, affecting medical supplies aimed at protecting lives in a pandemic,” the Foreign Ministry stressed and called on the Moldovan side to stop the politicization and bureaucratization of processes related to counteracting the spread of COVID-19.

Chisina also asked WHO to direct the technical mission to the Transnistrian region, where "Moldova's constitutional authorities cannot guarantee the observance of human rights, including access to medical services." But the request came after the OSCE announced the lack of plans to convene a meeting in the format "5 +2" at the request of Chisinau to study the current epidemiological situation and health problems in the region.

Deputy Prime Minister for the Reintegration of Christina Lester stated that the agenda provides for the "determination of the health balance and respect for human rights in the Republic of Moldova" and includes the health of the population in the Transnistrian region, where about 320 thousand Moldovan citizens live.

At the same time, she noted that the regime of self-insulation of the Transnistria and an obstacle to free movement in combination with access to medical care for citizens with Moldovan medstrashovka seriously violate human rights.

The State Duma Deputy Gennady Onishchenko said to journalists that the specialists of the All-Russian Medicine Center disasters are ready to advise Transnistrian doctors in video conferencing.

According to Wednesday, the total inhabitants of the unrecognized republic recorded 428 laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19. 37 patients recovered, 20 died.
