The Department of Forensic Medicine of the Altai State Medical University was founded in 1958.
Its location was a special building of the main building. In 1968, the department moved to the newly built morphological building of the institute, where there were: three study rooms, a museum, a sectional hall, a scientific laboratory, offices for faculty, graduate students, residents and laboratory assistants.
The main scientific direction of the department is forensic traumatology.
Classes in forensic medicine at the medical, pediatric, dental and medical-prophylactic faculties are conducted according to the block system. In the course of practical classes, students use the "Guidelines for the preparation and implementation of practical classes", compiled by the department's staff in accordance with the requirements of the current Criminal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation.
A scientific circle is constantly working at the department, many students who were engaged in the circle later became forensic experts and work not only in the Altai Territory, but also in other regions of Russia.
More than 43 dissertations have been defended by the staff of the department, including 6 doctoral ones, more than 42 residents and graduate students have been trained. Some of them headed the forensic medical service of the regions.
The department is part of the Altai branch of the All-Russian Society of Forensic Physicians, where it shares with great success the information obtained in scientific research with practical experts.
The Department of Pathological Anatomy of the Altai Medical Institute was founded in 1956. The first leader was Professor A.G. Warsaw, with the name of which the whole history of the formation and development of the department is inextricably linked. Large scientist, widely educated specialist A.G. Warsaw initially with a small team (S.F. Yushkov, L.A. Kuznetsov, N.A. Davydov) successfully solved complex organizational issues, including the creation of the Picture.
In 1958, the Department was organizationally strengthened. The staff of the department highlights the post of associate professor on which A.S. is elected Goldeadze. She led a greater advisory work on the pathoanatomic service and led by scientific research of employees of a number of the Department of Institute. Recently, A.S. Goldeadze worked as Professor of the Department of Pathological Anatomy of the Leningrad Medical Sanitary and Hygienic Institute, and Professor S.F. Yushkov as a head of the department of oncology of the AMN of the USSR.
Since 1964, Assistant of the Department is elected by A.M. Helimsky, who made a noticeable contribution to the organization of the educational process and research work. In 1967, Professor A.M. Helimsky headed the department of the Department of Pathological Anatomy of the Kyrgyz Medical Institute.
In connection with retirement of Professor A.G. Warsaw since 1972, the department was headed by Professor S.D. Cats. At this time, Professor S.D. Koshkov, Associate Professor B.I. Pogodin, Assistants, Candidates of Medical Sciences: TS Taranina, Yu.K. Summer, A.G. Kulizhn, V.Ya. Supotic, S.F. Voronkov, continuing to actively improve the educational and educational work among students.
In 1982, at the office came to work as Assistants A.V. Lepilov, E.Ya. Kerekelitsa and N.Yu. Lukovsky. During work at the University, Lepilov A.V. Scientific research over the past period of time was devoted to the development of issues of oncology, endocrinology, morphology of the transplantation reaction, regional pathology, angiology and vitigiousness.

Scientific issues of the department lies in the development of the peculiarities of the morphology of the tumor process, the pathology of the cardiovascular system, lungs, liver and the urogenital system. Currently, the staff of the department is carried out by a comprehensive scientific study of the malignant tumors of the stomach, intestines, kidneys and female genital organs in collaboration with the Altai branch of the Russian oncological scientific center. N.N. Blokhina Ramne (director – Professor A.F. Lazarev). Studies are performed using modern technologies related to so-called molecular methods. Employees of the department accepted and continue to participate in the research work of employees of many other departments and practicing clinicians.
From July 2015 he was elected to the position of head of the department Alexander Vasilyevich Lepilov. The field of scientific interests: topical issues of general pathological anatomy, angiology and pulmonology. Recent scientific works are published on topical issues of experimental oxalate nephrolithiasis. Currently, a member of the dissertation council D 001.037.01 in the FGBNA Institute of Molecular Pathology and Patomorphology of Novosibirsk.
